With all the erratic weather events largely due to the instability of our own climate as a result of nearly irreparable (but preventable) anthropogenic influences, I know you’re all wondering what’s a girl to do if she’s stranded and the water starts to rise? Well, I joined my new friend M.I.T. TIM (whoa, didn’t realize until now that M.I.T. is “Tim” spelled backwards. How ironic) to find out how to make a life-saving device out of the stuff you have around the house. In this demonstration, a few of us chip in to build a floating mattress bed-turned-boat. All you need is an old box-spring mattress, paint can, wood and some rope - and Voila! You have a floating life saving vessel! Fully tested (as you can see) at Alameda Beach. For the full how-to, check it out here!
